A new problem Sat, 12/21/13 8:25 AM (permalink)
I was a little worried about inflation, economic collapse, a clam shortage, climate change, and a rogue nuclear bomb, but now I find that we may have a bigger problem.  A show on the Science Channel says that a change in the polarity of the earth's magnetic field will happen within 1500 years...........with "within" meaning that it could happen next year. It has already started. The best that we can hope for is a quick change over. Get out the SPF 10,000, and hope that mankind can get through it.

At least Al Gore is in hiding, which is a relief to many.

      Can't happen soon enough.

I'd rather be in Rio right now, anyway!

I'm sure that he is somewhere, possibly:

        • At his 10,000+ sq. ft. mansion in Santa Barbara
        • At his 10,000+ sq. ft. mansion in Nashville
        • On travel in his private jet, hopefully in Cairo to enjoy their first snow in a century

The snow pictures of Egypt have been proven to be Photoshopped.

As I understand it, the polarity of Earth does change over millions of years. One theory is that it's what happened to kill all the dinosaurs.

Too bad; I did read legit news stories though.

But the one thing that cannot be photo-shopped is hypocracy; it just slaps you in the face.

You seem determined to drag me in, but I won't go!  But I will say that just because Al Gore is an a**hat, that does not mean the scientists who talk about global warming are wrong. It also doesn't mean those who refuse to believe in global warming are wrong. Me, I'm not a scientist, so I can't have an educated opinion. And this thread was about the world's polarity being reversed, which has pretty much nothing to do with global warming as you're talking about it anyway.

And yes, it did snow in Cairo, but 99% of the pictures going around the internet showing world-famous Egyptian monuments covered in snow are not. They barely got a dusting, and not where the monuments are located.

I was just trying to be humorous, not 'argue'.

Sorry, but I find the hubris of 'man-made' anything to be hilarious - on a scale of most Chinese believing that one can see the 20' - 40' wide Great Wall from the moon when the Jersey Turnpike can't be seen from 100 miles 'up'.

A polarity shift has nothing to do with Al Gore or global warming, man made or not. I do expect that Al would expect to be one of the beautiful people who would get to hide out in an underground bunker while the problem passed. I expect that most of US would be radiated to death on the surface before we starved. One can only hope that a Mad Max would find Al's bunker and kick him out.

Wasn't a polar shift the cause of the problem in the movie 2012?

                              Indeed, it does look unpleasant.

But, that solar flare in Knowing was even more sudden and deadly!

If Bruce Willis could take on an asteroid in Armageddon, surely he can solve a little problem like a magnetic polar shift!
