Baltimore question

So I came across this thing called 'Old Fashioned Sour Onions' that seems to be a Baltimore thing.  The product page for a company that makes them reads like a testimonial.  Like pickled eggs, they are sold sometimes in taverns.  Can someone from Baltimore that is familiar with them explain them to me?  How do you eat them; alone or with something else?
