Noob questions Wed, 01/22/14 4:30 PM (permalink)
In planning stages of food trailer and have a few questions.
Can I plug my trailer into my house at night? I assume so.
On long drives to events, what do you do just run the generator going down the road to keep the refridge and freezer going?
BIG, I say BIG question.
Our plan is to set-up local during the week and work festivals on the weekend.
We live in a fairly small town and I have permission from a convenience store owner to set up on his lot and offer breakfast and lunch. It is a large parking lot in the fork of two very busy roads. Assuming we have good food at fair prices, how do you think this will work? There is no where to buy prepared food in the area.

Thanks for your help, I'm sure I'll have lots more questions.

    Hey Welcome to the board

You can add a transfer box so you can plug it to your house with an adapter look on my write up should be a link that someone posted for me.

I'm building a battery pack with inverter for my fridge(s) to store the food while mobile.

Sounds like you have a awesome location. THe last part, it all how your run your business (Service, market, & price). If service is slow and not good people wont come even if the food is fantastic.  You have the balance the two keep the menu simple but creative at good prices w/o losing a profit.

I'm sure that before you have wasted any time in planning that you have talked with the health dept and city/county offices to make sure that mobile units are allowed.

Yes, The city requires that it is in a commercial zoned area.
Of course we will have health department certifications.
        Thank you.

We drive with no power to the refrigeration.  As long as you don't open the doors, a couple hours and everything is still below 40F even in the summer.  They are insulated pretty well.

Your spot sounds like something to try, you never know.  A nice thing about a weekday hangout is it gives you a chance to use up goods not sold on the weekend and greatly reduces scrap.  When we did weekends only we had tons of waste.
