Indianapolis, In. Best place for Breakfast?

Hi All,
Best place for breakfast in the city of Indy, or the surrounding city's. Maybe inside the I 465 loop. Thanks.

Charlie, are you looking for traditional breakfast fare or are you open to some slightly different options?  If you don't mind stepping outside of the box a little bit, The Tamale Place opens at 6:30am on weekdays and is on Rockville Road just east of I-465 (west side).

I've been to Charlie Brown's Pancake and Steak House on Main Street in Speedway. The breakfasts are classic but the ambiance of small town Americana in a metro area is even better along with the Indy 500 racing atmosphere and it (the morning we were there) seemingly was where Speedway police, Indianapolis police and Marion County sheriffs department congregated. It is where locals and tourists mingle.

Hey, and the name is appropriate.

There is a place on the east side of downtown a few blocks north of Bankers Life Arena called Maxine's that is good.  I had chicken and waffles and my wife had an omelet and we were both very pleased.

If you want something more upscale there is a Spanish restaurant on Delaware (again toawrds the east side of downtown) the name slips my mind but there have an AWESOME Sunday brunch.

    Hi Fans,

    Hi Fans,
I had decided on Kountry Kitchen. Saturday Feb 8th, and Kountry Kitchen was close to my surprise!!!! Sign said, "Due the unforeseen issue, close for a few days. Headed for Maxine's. Was I intimidated by the Chicken & Waffle? I don't know. It was a hard chose between that or the Chicken Omelet. Chicken Omelet won. Have to come back from Vincennes to try the Chicken & Waffle. If anybody can find out why Kountry Kitchen close, that will be appreciated. Thanks Charlie.

I read this thread with great interest, since we have never really found a really good breakfast place in Indy.  Usually, I just end up at Shapiro's and that's not exactly a bad thing!

I used to go to Shapiro's for breakfast frequently when in Indianapoils when they had a restaurant on West 86th Street. It was very good, but that was some 15 years ago.

Well, you might go a bit north to the Noblesville/Fishers area and try Best Bet. They're only open for breakfast and brunch/lunch. The Roost, in Fishers, also rates fairly high for breakfast with some folks, (I think Buffet Buster may have stopped in there on one of his trips. Someone included it in a trip report). Sunrise Cafe's are all over the place and folks seem to like them a lot. Never been myself but they always seem pretty busy when I drive past one.

I could be wrong, but I'm thinking that might have been wanderingjew who wrote about going to The Roost.

My brother and I were there in '02 and '04 for the US Grand Prix. We ate breakfast at Le Peep a couple of times and both thought it excellent.

    Hi all,
Thanks to U all for letting me know where to eat.  I was told that the Kountry Kitchen was close due to frozen water pipe. I hope that they make a comeback. As I want to try all suggested places to eat breakfast. They all sound good, and look good to eat at.
I met a wonderful owner/chef Jeffery, at Maxine's Chicken & Waffles. Grandson of Maxine.  He was telling me a story of a place in Harlem, NY.  "Wells Supper Club!" How the first Chicken & Waffles started.    Thanks Jeffery! Charlie B.

Btw, if u ever go to Cincinnati, (Cincy) Ohio, I have found that Suger'n Spice is the best place in Cincy. short for Cincinnati.  I 75 South, to 562 East, onto 42 South, three blocks south. on right. A Funky place, with funky colors on the outside.

Now that it's a moot point, I'll weigh in and say you've missed a good one.
My favorites would be Le Peep's, Patachou's, 3 Sisters.

Can't speak for its breakfast, but Shapiro's remains wonderful for lunch. My son and I were there last month, for the first time in 8 years, and quality is as good as ever. The pie was excellent, too. So maybe that's an indication on what you can expect their baked goods to be like in the morning.
