KFC goes "Healthy" Tue, 04/27/04 9:50 AM (permalink)
seems that KFC has dropped the idea of calling fried chicken "healthy" and is going to be offering oven roasted chicken in strips, in wraps and in salads. Personally i think i will head down to Eufalla and JM's for some skillet fried chicken with cream gravy!!

I agree. When I want "Fried Chicken", I want "Fried Chicken". If I want to eat healthy, I'll go somewhere else and get a salad or grilled chicken or whatever. But at KFC, I want Fried Chicken

maybe they'll stop playing those stupid Kitchen Fresh Chicken commercials now? They annoy me greatly.

I dont eat KFC for Fried Chicken, except if I am really desperate. But if I did go there, i want it fired in all its glory.

I seem to remember them pulling this oven roasted thing once before. It failed then, doubt it will succeed now.

People who go to KFC aren't looking for healthy food. I predict this initiative will fail.

I think there may have been a lawsuit about their claiming that the fried chicken was healthy -- low carb! They, of course, neglacted to mention fat content, cholesterol, and calories, but hey -- I guess if you can convince someone that they can eat all the fried chicken they want, and lose weight because it is low carb, then go for it!

Anyway, I think this may be a way of trying to make that lawsuit go away. I think it may have been filed by the FTC, but I am not sure.

And, there first attempt was Oven Gold chicken, when the rotisserie chicken craze first hit, and they tried to go head-to-head with Boston Market. Unfortunately, they must have bought crappy roasters because they kept breaking. The article I read today said that they were going to make the new oven roasted chicken in the same ovens in which they bake their biscuits.

I think PETA was on to KFC for cruelty to chickens, with a law suit, but they dropped it.

KFC voluntarily dropped the ad campaign suggesting that KFC chicken was healthy -- after they got a whole raft of suff from anyone with good sense.

they tried this several years ago with something called rotisserid chicken but the ovens kept breaking down, the new chicken will be roasted in the ovens used to make the biscuits.

So does that mean the biscuits will improve?

If KFC fried the chicken without the batter, it would qualify as low carb. When they add the batter, the carbs go through the roof.

The Sundancer is not on KFC's case. To me personally, I like their product although it is not my favorite but I really have a hard time finding my favorite. Popeye's is re-opening in Knoxville soon. I like their hot chicken and dirty rice. Famous recipe is in Maryville and they are pretty good. I personally like pressure fried chicken.

I will try their new oven roasted chicken and if it is good, I will continue to buy and if it ain't I won't.

I walked into a KFC about a year ago and saw a framed picture advertising the first go around of the non fried chicken idea. They must be happy they dont have to redecorate!

The new ads are supposed to have been made with Richard Pryor as the anti-KFC spokesman.

I like to pig out on KFC about once every 2 or 3 months. I know that when I eat it it isn't good for me. But 4 times a year won't kill me either. Personally I like the original recipe the best. Heck with the rest.

Oh yeah, IMNSHO their cole slaw is THE BEST!

There are still a few along I-80. Western Illinois and Central Nebraska if I remember correctly. I remember driving back and forth from Chicago to Laramie, Wy with my boyfried when we students at UW and stopping to pigout at the buffet. I know for sure that the Nebraska location is about 1 or 2 hours east of North Platte. Sometimes my boyfriend would suffer such bad intestinal distress from KFC that we would have to spend the night in North Platte so he could be within seconds from a toilet.
