trying to remember the name.... Sun, 06/27/04 6:26 PM (permalink)
OKay, so lately every time i go down the cookie asile at the grocery store, i keep thinking about this one cookie. It was out like ten years ago, so its been a while. It was a lemon flavored cookie with a powered sugar topping. I think it came in a box like nila waffers or in a bag. They are kind of like snow drops but lemon flavored and a little flatter. I think they were called lemon coolers or something. Does anyone else remeber these cookies? Does anyone remeber their name? Its been bugging me for weeks. Thanks for the help

They were Lemon Coolers and they were made by Sunshine. Sunshine was bought out by Keebler and Lemon Coolers were discontinued.

Thank you so much. My mind is at ease, although a little said. I did some web research and it seems a lot of people miss this little cookie. However, i did find a recipe for them. Hopefully its as good as i remember. THANKS AGAIN :)

I've seen "gourmet" versions of this cookie packaged in tins. There's also a key lime version. They can be found in a lot of upscale gourmet shops, maybe even in dept. stores. Good luck!

Kristi: Yep. Just as I knew. When Keebler bought Sunshine, some of Sunshine's varieties were eliminated. Kinda' sucks doesn't it?

Boy, that stinks. I loved those as a kid. Anyone remember a few years ago they came out with other flavors - I think it was key lime and raspberry (don't remember any others, but there may have been more). Maybe that was an effort to kick start sales before they dropped them altogether. The powdered sugar could get messy, but it was a small price to pay, IMHO.

Here is a recipe, haven't tried it myself, but hopefully it will fill the bill...

                    LEMON COOLERS COOKIES
                    1 cup unsalted butter, softened
                    1/2 cup sugar
                    1-1/2 T grated lemon peel
                    1 egg yolk
                    1 tsp lemon extract
                    1/4 tsp salt
                    2-1/2 cups flour

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cream butter; gradually add sugar and
beat until fluffy. Beat in lemon peel, egg yolk, lemon extract and
salt. Add flour and stir just until blended. Roll into balls. Place
3" apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Dip bottom of a glass into
sugar. Press down onto dough, flattening into 1/4" thick rounds.
Bake until edges begin to brown, about 10 minutes. Transfer cookies
to racks and cool. Sift powdered sugar over tops
