Virgil's BBQ NYC

Whenever I'm in Manhattan, I make a point to stop at Virgil's. But not for the Q, which is fine, but not out of this world. What IS out of this world at Virgil's? The "BBQ Wings". These are some serious wings. Don't be deceived by "BBQ" in the description. The wings are smoked, then marinated w/ a bone-sucking vinegar-based marinade, then finished off on the grill. For $10, you get 7-8 full wings (tips & all). Finger-licking, bone-sucking chicken wing heaven. The Mac & Cheese and buttermilk biscuits are also damned good. John

And the cheese grits, too. Smooth and creamy. Heard someone refer to them as like a "mac & cheese shake" But for a real treat sit at the bar and ask for some popcorn. Looks like normal popcorn, but it is so hot, and has so much tasty spice.... yet you can't see anything on it ????? I have had out of this world Memphis-style ribs there, but not consistently.

Virgil's is a lot of fun, and pretty good bbq for mid-town Manhattan. But there is other much better bbq throughout the five boroughs. I've always enjoyed their mixed, "one of everything" platter.

One of my favorite places too. I normally go for the "Chicago Style" hot dogs. BB

Particularly if it's not gloppy tomatoey stuff, but more like N.C. bbq? Thanks much.

When my wife & I were there around July 4th, we had a drink at the bar and she loved the popcorn. Whatever they do to it, it's good! Thanks for jogging my memory.
