Most would refer to it as a Pie. Either a small pie, medium pie or large pie!!! APIZZA Do you know what's really funny? "I've never heard of a sicilian" Common guy you're from New Haven which is not to far from NYC and you never heard of a sicilian? Even Pizza Hut make a BS imitation of a sicilian. I guest you New Haven guys haven't got that far in Pizzology!!! Pizza is a shortened version of the original apizza. And by the way, we always went to get a pie. As to Sicilian, except for some of my relatives who are very nice in spite of being Sicilians, I'll still take a Neapolitan anytime.

Hey Michael: Next time you are up there, please shop at the Dairy Queen, Liquor Store, Outfitters, and the gas station. My relatives have lots of bills to pay!!! By the way, my father was born on East Chapman, just off of Sheridan!!! We used to go up there in the 1960s and 1970s to say hi to Sig Olson (the wildlife preservationist) and the Root Beer Lady!!!

I've shopped at the liquor store off Sheridan, but I've never been to the Dairy Queen. I've used Canadian Waters and Bill Rom's, but I've not met the Root Beer Lady. Sigurd Olson died back in the early 1980s, but I knew him pretty well. By the way, I prize my Minnesota State Bird T-shirt.

Wholebelly - try Villa Pizza in Stratford for Sicilian. It's in the plaza with the movie theatres on Barnum Avenue Cut-Off, and is somehow affiliated with Massimo's. I moved to Milford 10 years ago, and still haven't found a Sicilian pie here that's as good as Villa's.

Michael-The root beer lady, Dorothy Molter died in 1986. She was quite an individual. We always visited her in the summers when visiting my grandparents. Check out www.canoecountry.com/dorothy/ for details on her life. And remember to take a tennis racket when you venture outside in Ely during the summer. It is easier to swat the "state bird" with it.

Now I remember who you meant. I never did meet her, but I'd heard of her for years. I never swat the state birds. I hook them up to my Grumman and let them pull me along. It's much more relaxing than having to do J-strokes.

Pompei Pizza in Chicago serves great Sicilian. However they call it Handrolled. It comes in a large rectangle and they sell it by the Tray 1/4,1/2 or full. They have a small picture of it on their web-site www.pompeipizza.com They have a few locations but the best is the original on Taylor street in Little Italy.
