Thirteen and one half pounds later, he's Meat Fest champion

When it comes to meat, Mike E. Wojenski has achieved a feat that's tough to beat.

During an eight-hour eating contest called the Meat Fest on Long Island a week ago, Wojenski, 24, lustily sampled the entire 12-item menu of cold cuts, steaks, pork roast and sausage, washing it down with plenty of beer.

Weighed at the end, he had gained 13 pounds, 9 ounces, more than any one of the 36 other contestants - 3 pounds more than the second-place finisher.

He described the effort as "not very difficult." "I equate it to a big day of going around to graduation parties," he said.

Wojenski, who tends bar part time at his father's place, Steve's Restaurant on Tipperary Hill, says he has a big appetite and a high metabolism.

He stands 6 feet, 2 inches and normally weighs 199 pounds. The day after the Meat Fest, he said, he had already dropped 9 pounds of his prize-winning weight gain.

The Meat Fest is a 5-year-old, invitation-only competition at the home of Kevin Finnerty in Bay Shore, Long Island.

Entry costs $50. Everyone cooks. No women attend. Shirts are stripped off at the start and everyone wears his beginning weight written on his belly. There are no forks, knives or napkins.

And no "healthy food."

"We're all young and dumb," explains Finnerty, 23.

They consumed about 200 pounds of food and 71/2 kegs of beer costing about $1,500.

Finnerty said Wojenski's strategy was simple.

"He just sat down and ate. He didn't talk. He ate and ate," Finnerty said.

Wojenski said he knew he'd won the trophy and custom-made champion's robe when, late in the day, everyone was just picking at the filet mignon that he was wolfing down.

He got his invitation on the recommendation of a friend of a friend of Finnerty's who witnessed an impressive display of Wojenski's appetite at a Denny's restaurant. Wojenski finished his meal, then polished off what was left on the plates of everyone else in a large group.

The Meat Fest is capped off with a night on the town.

Wojenski said he was pretty beat by 3 a.m.

"I went home, had a little bit to eat and went to sleep," he said.

Could I ask why this topic (fun as it is) is in International Food?

I cannot believe this is an International Foods Website...I am flattered. The Champ Is Here!

For kicks I put "meat fest wojenski" in a google search and this site came up. I won that competition over the summer after a little preparation. I did a few local radio interviews and things for the newspaper but this forum is the best!

I cannot reveal my secret as to how I gained and lost so much weight in such a short amount of time. I fear my competitors may get ideas and I must defend the title next August. Lets just say that I am a model and my weight needs to flucuate 10 pounds or so for shoots. Sometime I only have a day or two to gain or lose the weight. I have a nice system.

Additionally, I have a huge appetite, lightning fast metabloism, and a grass habit...combine the three and you have trinity of a meat eating competitor.

Thanks for having me on here...thanks for the replys too. Take care all. Be Good!

                    Yours Truly,

Yeah...that's how I started, by relieving myself...the real party started at the New Baltimare rest stop on the NY Thruway the following day. You'll have to use your imagination with that one.

By the way, how many Nathan's can YOU get down in one sitting? I could probably manage six, but that, like my already-too-large stomach, is stretching it. I really don't understand how those little Japanese guys can eat that much in competitions....

                              I don't eat birds...alergies.

                              I have ham on Thanksgiving.

I am not a one sitting eater...I only participate in eating marathons, my stomach can't handle sprits. That Kobyashi guy would crush me in a speed competition. But in an all day event I'd make him look famish.

                                        A grass habit?????

As the Sundancer recalls during college when some would smoke but never inhale, the effects caused a munchie attack. When the champ states he has a grass habit, the Sundancer wonders if he had an extreme munchie attack??????????

The meat was delicious. The Filets were the best, the lamb was well done too, vey tender. There were also ribs (honey and bbq), NY strips, T-bones, pulled pork, bacon, ham, prosscuito (spelled wrong), roast beef, and basically anything else you can think of, that is just what I can recall. Nothing that swims or flies. Land rovers only. I like it red and bloody, the only way to go.

Thanks for the support. This has been a blast.

Thanks Chez for the initial post.

I will give you more dumb stuff to post when I become the first ever to take back to back titles in August 2005. The robe of the champion shall cease to leave my closet...1
