Kayo chocolate drink Tue, 08/24/04 1:13 PM (permalink)
Hi - I'm looking for a source for Kayo chocolate drink. Is it still made anywhere? Yoo Hoo is a far second.

We are having a family reunion and are trying to recreate the old ones in the '40s and '50s. We always yad Kayo and Creme soda chilling on a block of ice in a two tub rinse tub - covered with green canvas. I found the old rinse tub, and the canvas was no problem, but I haven't found a source for Kayo yet.

I dont believe the chocolate drink is made anymore. You can still get the hot chocolate mix though. I thought the brand was bought out by Sara Lee, but a quick searhc of thier site turned up nothing.

Thanks for the input. Any chance I could get some shipped to the Midwest? Do you know name & phone number of distributor?

Thanks for the link. I can get it in Indy, just next door! It's not Kayo, but it's the next best thing.

Ahh, Kayo chocolate drink. That sure brings back memories. They used to have it in packets at my grade-school cafeteria. I haven't seen it in decades.

I'm 28 and live in Chicago. They had Kayo in a can about 10 years ago at a Jewel foodstore by my house. I can't believe they do not sell this stuff anymore. Yoo-hoo cannot even come close to Kayo. This might be the greatest drink of all time. Whoever discontinued it should be severly reprimanded, not in a manner they will enjoy but in a style calculated to make them wish they never took Kayo off the shelf. Any help finding that brown can with yellow and red lettering spelling KAYO would be helpful. I miss Kayo. PLEASE HELP ME!! KAYO JUNKIE HERE!!!

When I was a kid, Kayo Chocolate Drink was my favorite, next to Green River. Kayo was only available in glass bottles, made with real milk, and had to be refrigerated. When Kayo switched from bottles to cans, it added chemicals, not requiring refrigeration. It's been off the midwest market for years. Kayo Hot Chocolate Mix is currently available as foodservice product from Superior Coffee.

God, I miss Kayo!! I used to buy it at the candy store at the end of my block called "Katie's" which was my penny candy haven! If I really wanted something refreshing Kayo was it, or a Fudgecycle. It was never the same once they put it in the cans and yoohoo is a far 2nd that I gave up on years ago.

Pepsi had its own version of Yoo Hoo called "DevilShake." I remember it well in the 70s....the Pepsi machine at the motel we vacationed at (good memories) had Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Teem, Mountain Dew, "Smile" Orange soda and Devil Shake. It's been over 30 years and I still remember the selections! This was when sodas were 25 cents. I would spend an hour scaling the parking lot and grassy area around the machine for a dropped quarter. Sigh. Good memories.

And yes, all the chocolate drinks tasted like liquid FudgeSickles!

How about the old Brownie chocolate drink? Does anyone remember that? I know it was available around Virginia. I never thought to check and see if it still exists...
