Back Yard Burgers Wed, 09/1/04 8:23 AM (permalink)
Our newspaper this morning had an article in it saying that we are getting a Back Yard Burger Restaurant. Is andbody familiar with this one?

One of the better chain burgers, in my opinion. The burger is thick and flavorful. The place near me is also a good corporate citizen, getting actively involved in the community.

As Brent described, it is one of the newer chains . A bit pricey compared to the Big-Guys, but not a bad burger. Usually located in areas where lots of other FF can be found.

I think we had one here that did not make it. Everyone I know who went, though, said the burgers were tasty -- but, apparently, not enough of my friends to keep them in business!

Oddly, their locations map seems to indicate that there is one in Northern Ky not too far from Cincinnati, but then you read the list of addresses and none are close....

Hopefully, we'll get one in Cincinnati. It's a big drop from your Fudruckers (8 bucks or so for a burger) to the Golden Arches (1-2 dollars for a burger) with few choices in between

They had one in northwest Columbus for a while, but it shut down before I ever got to try it.

Very good food, if a bit pricy. 1/3# burger with pepper jack cheese and waffle fries is the way to go...

Man, do I miss the Fudrucker's there in Beechmont. Never understood why that location couldn't support a great burger place. We occasionally go to the one in Rookwood Commons, but the Beechmont location always seemed closer and the crowds more manageable. (Maybe I just answered my own question.)
(And I was wrong about Hibachi Express closing. They just put paper on the windows and changed their name.)

BYard Burgers has a few places in ATL for quite some time now. They are just drive-in type places like Checkers and the burgers are better than the big chain FFood places. However, I usually like to sit down for lunch rather than eat in the car with nice clothes on and slopping all over myself. But that's a personal problem.

I've had them a couple of times -- better than average burgers, but my wife wasn't as impressed, so she generally vetoes when I suggest it. She's still unhappy because a local hole-in-the-wall burger restaurant, Jim's Backyard Grill, just closed. Big, juicy burgers that tasted like they were cooked outside, really great fries, and some decent Mexican food, also. It was stuck in a little strip mall, and I think people just couldn't see it from the road. Makes me regret every time I took the easy route and ate a Whopper instead of going there...I really COULD have kept them in business...

Several years ago, found one in Kansas City. Decided to try it because there was a long line out the door. It took my entire lunch hour to get the food and eat but I am still singing the praises of Backyard Burger over other FF chains and wish we would get one in my town! I see where there is one in Fayetteville NC - should hit that when doing a NC BBQ run I think.

We've had BYB here in Memphis for many years. When they first opened they were a lot better - now they overcook the meat.

Still, they are a cut above all other fast food. Their blackened chicken sandwich is quite tasty and they have KILLER (hand scooped) milk shakes!

We just got on in the last couple of months in Columbia MO and I like it. What's more amazing, my raised-in-Missouri family, who for years would eat nothing but Steak n' Shake burgers, like Backyards better than SnS. My favorite, damn-the-calories burger is the one they do with bleu cheese.

I will have to try the blackened chicken sandwich.

Fuddrucker's 4 miles from here. Haven't been in 15 years. Something about squirting orange goo, called cheese on my overcooked burger lost my interest long ago. I work with a guy who swears by Fuddrucker's, hates Hackney's (Chicago thing) and has never in his 45 years eaten a White Castle burger. Not a fun guy.

They had one down here in Bradenton, FL for awhile but apparently it never made it cause it's gone. From everybody's comments above would like to try one.

Backyard isn't bad but I've discovered it best to go during a busy time if you want a good burger otherwise they sit around getting dry and tasteless. Of course as with all franchisies that may just be the one in my neighborhood.

Backyard Burgers is pretty good; their fries (either curly or waffle-cut) are awesome. Only problem was that they don't put too much in the way of lettuce/tomatoes/onions/pickles on my burger, which keeps it a notch below Hardeee's.
