two more weeks... Wed, 05/2/07 9:41 AM (permalink)
hey, I was typing away like crazy last night and just a few more sentences away from finishing when we had a power outage and my computer shut down!!! Anyway, here goes what I was trying to vent to you guys:
I stay at home with my two kids but since February of this year I've also been babysitting my nephew everyday full time and let me tell you I am SO tired! Since my daughter doesn't go to school until 11:30 for speech I really don't have to be up so early (i'm not an early morning person) but ever since I've been babysitting--DING DONG! my nephew gets dropped off at my house at 7:15am. I try my best to wake up earlier so that I can at least be in an awaken state, but it's difficult for me. But in two weeks he will be going to regular daycare and I will almost have my life back. Oh, and I ALSO babysit a kindergartner afterschool till about 7:30 every night and although she's a sweetheart I really want to just be by myself. So does my husband who comes home exhausted from work with a house full of four children running around in a 1300 sq ft. house (yeah, it's that small!). So may 30 is the last day of school and then finally no more babysitting! I can't wait to hit the gym in the mornings, I can't right now because the one time i tried taking my nephew with me he cried non stop for 15 minutes and so I had to leave So I'm looking forward to not having to wake up so early or having to pack four kids in a car to go shopping. I really don't think I could have anymore children, two's enough for me! thanks for letting me vent.

I don't know how you do it. On Sunday, I watched my two kids, plus my wife's best friend's 4 year old boy and twin 1 1/2 year old girls for 5 hours, while they went to Juarez for margaritas. At 10 pm, the husband came back home from his business trip, and I was finally relieved of my duties. Drove back home, put the kids right to bed, tried to watch the TiVo of the NBA basketball game with a beer. Couldn't stay awake for more than 15 minutes. I didn't finish the beer either.

i think it's the extra money that I'm saving for our vacation that's made me not mind babysitting, but I'm down to my last nerve and the kids are just about to get on it!

rofl. Sorry I have to laugh. I have 7 kids and home school the 6 that are still home. They are home all the time. Plus I get the added pleasure of piano lessons, violin lessons, being a constant taxi and going to way more swim meets than should be legal.

I will say though, I'm not a fan of other peoples children. Most parents don't make them mind and many of the kids have no inkling of manners. I'd rather hit myself in the head with a hammer than be subjected to even my own families children for longer than 15 mins.

          BhamBabe,

You have my utmost respect, my hat is off to you. My step daughter has two at home, between them and the running around she does with them she considers an hour at the supermarket alone a night out. But, they are the best behaved children I have ever known and I'm sure yours are as well. Their knowing that they are loved and cared for will stand them well in the years to come with their own children.

          John

I thinks that's what it is Bham, the other two aren't mine so I'm just not used to it--obviously. I really really can't wait till I'm back with my own two kids and spending more quality time with them instead of having to get after them for whatever reason. Btw, my kids are 4 years old and 15 months old and my nephew is 18mos old...my son and nephew really don't get along and so there is a lot of crying all over the house. I think that is what drives me mad. As for what you said John about going to the supermarket is considered alone time, well in my case just being able to take a shower for longer than 3 minutes is my alone time! I LOVE staying home raising MY kids but this is the dumbest decision I ever made...agreeing to babysit. Never again will I do it.

Wow, I feel for ya! My own kids are grown, though my youngest is still at home (age 18 with Asperger's). I remember the days of running and babysitting. I won't be doing that again until I have grandkids and believe me, I'm in no hurry. Hubby and I have just entered into this new phase (my Aspie had quite a bit of trouble with the last 5 years of school). Also, I work at a college and will be off for the summer in two weeks. So I'm right there with ya! Except for that early morning gym part....
