I had to buy a replacment umbrella recently for the cart. It has no graphics or lettering on it, but I want to add some. Will vinyl lettering work for this? Anyone have any experience with a custom umbrella? Thanks, Eddy B

I have experience with vinyl lettering, but not to cloth. On metal it works like a charm. You may want to learn a cheap and new trade, 'silk screening'. It's simple and you can always create your own mass graphics for everything from cloth thru paper! And if you dont want to get that involved, it probably be better to hire someone to silk screen your wares there.. Best of luck!

The best option is silk screening. Total kits are out there though if its one time, it won't be worth the kit. A silk screener is going to charge for design time, each screen they have to use and maybe even a setup charge for your one umbrella. A second option is fabric paint bought from the hobby/craft stores. My wife and I have used it and its been durable, tough tends to be thick and unbending. The option of fabric paint gives you the option of designing anything you want with as many colors that you want and you can alway repair or change it yourself.

Hi Vic, How about a vinyl umbrella, will vinyl letters work well on that? I thought about putting some on my umbrella, but was un-sure about wether or not the letters would adhere properly.

Eddy Vinyl will work for a short time, but after it gets wet several times it will start to roll and peel. Silk screening is the best idea, find a local t-shirt/embroidery place that does silk screening and talk to them and show them what you have and would like to have.

My original umbrella had vinyl lettering, but I don't know what kind of material it was, canvas polyester type I would say.

your original was most likely done using a steam press and industrial strenght adhesives not something easily done by the do it yourselfers. If you dont want to paint it yourself perhaps locating a local artist would be an option? Ask at the local highschool art dept or see if theres an art fair or craft fair in your area and approach some of the artists
