hey guys. I LOVE sweet iced tea. I'll make it everyday with a cup of sugar scooped into it. and I LOVE a sweet fountain Dr. Pepper (just 62cents at Exxon down the road) that goes well with a hot dog or burger. BUT........ I've begun to drink only water or Crystal Lite at home and boy, I'm really not being crude, forgive me, but it really makes a difference in the color of someone's urine. I know, know, too much information you can stop reading now. But the less I drink tea or soda, the better I feel (i'm trying a mini-diet where i just cut back on certain foods/drinks). And yes I do miss my tea but when I really want it, I buy one instead of making it at home because if not I'll probably go through all 2 quarts myself!! So as hard it is for me to eat a meal with plain ol' water, I know in the end I'll be reaping the benefits.

That's not the least bit crude. We all pee. I sure can tell when I've been eating asparagus.

I hear you. I used to drink 4 or 5 of the 500ml bottles of soda per day. It was hard to give up, but the HFCS was killing me. I drink Diet Coke (tm) now, but not much. The taste is actually ok, but at least for me it is not habit forming like the Coke (tm) or Mountain Dew (tm) was. The Arizona (tm) diet teas are ok too, but again, easy to pass up. Like you, I now depend on plain ole water as my primary drink.

Just to give you a warning, drinking too much water can land you in the hospital like me last year! Apparently I flushed out all my electrolytes and body salts while on a diet that a naturopath had given me. Two days in the ICU being pumped up with saline and nutrients fixed me. I don't drink anywhere near as much water, probably 4 glasses a day now and I'll have a glass with Emergen-C now and then.

Naxet, you mentioned Crystal Light in your post, so I wanted to pass along some info to you that might be helpful. I am diabetic, so I have to watch my sugar intake. Sometime back, I thought I'd found the answer to not being able to enjoy tea when I tried some of the Crystal Light peach flavored tea. It was delicious, and it didn't contain any sugar. I don't want to be crude either, but after I drank it continuously for about a week, my stomach began to ache, and I developed a severe case of the "outhouse trots." I didn't suspect the tea, until I read that one of its ingredients is potassium nitrate. After a bit of research, I learned that potassium nitrate is also an ingredient that's used to make gunpowder, (giving new meaning to the term "explosive diarrhea"). I have since switched to a diet soda that doesn't contain it. Just wanted to give you a heads up about what Crystal Light can do, if you drink it in moderation, and don't go overboard like I did, you should probably be ok.

This talk of potassium nitrate and pee reminded me of an old diary entry that I saw in some old history book. One of our founding fathers wrote about laying on his back, under his barn to scrape up a valuable handfull of saltpeter (potassium nitrate) that was a product of evaporating urine. He did it because he knew that the army needed gunpowder very badly. I have to wonder if we would even elect a person like that today.....

Hello All, My poppa preached and preached that we all drink water. It took me years, and alot of hangovers, to appreciate H2O. The thing that bothers me is the quality of our water today. Bottled water is a scandal of the future. First of all, water in plastic bottles bothers me. Second, much of the bottled water is labeled from springs. Well, we have a water plant in our valley that comes from an ancient, healing spring. Now that spring has a pharmaceutical plant and a beer plant as it's neighbor. Fish are dying in the river that borders the plants. We are told to only eat a certain amount of fish we catch from that river due to the chemical in the fish. We need a new Teddy Roosevelt, a renewed defender of practical ways to protect the earth and ourselves. Take Care, Fieldthistle

wow. thanks for the tip there skylar! you know, I haven't had it in years so I don't remember the first time if I experienced any uh...shall we say... stomach discomfort. I think I'll be a little more cautious now though. I just had some Crystal Lite fruit punch right now, one glass with my tuna sandwich. I only drink it when I REALLY don't want just plain water with a meal. As for going overboard on water kland, I meant to say that I only drink it with my meals now as opposed to only when I was thirsty. I used to drink tea with everything. I never buy sodas because if not I'll go crazy on them but when I eat out I do or when I have a big craving. So far I've been cooking at home everyday so I haven't been tempted by the soda monster. Oh and Kland, how about that sad story about the woman who drank herself to death on that radio station? Oh I can't believe it went that far!

You might want to look for Emergen-C, it comes in a variety of flavors and is added to water. It has vitamins and minerals and there is one with added C and one with added calcium, my doctor was the one who got me drinking it. It used to be only in health food stores but I see it at the supermarket and even Wal-Mart. We buy ours at Trader Joe's.

My name is Pat and I am a juice-aholic ! The difference in the the way I felt when I switched to just water and juice is like night and day. Only 100% juice (Juicy Juice) with no added HFC and as all natural as I can get it at my small town store. This kind of limits me to Motts All Natural. They have a great punch flavored apple juice "for kids" that's great. When I get to a big store I get Tart Cherry concentrate and sometimes Pomegranate. I still do my morning Joe, milk, and green and decaf ice tea but primarily juice and water. Changing the stuff that seemed like I just poured down my gullet truly has helped my health and well being...Why I feel like I'm 43 again !

Water in the morning, either water or a Coca Cola at noontime, a couple of scotch & waters before dinner, and water with dinner. Works for me. John

Ale and beer have water in them purified with an hour of boiling. That's good enough for me.
