I really like the Golden Corral, if you leave that place feeling hungry then there is something wrong.

My highschool job was at a buffet restaurant called Duff's Smorgasbord. They have long since been out of business and to my knowledge, there is only one left in existence and it is located in Pigeon Forge TN. I guess they bought rights to the name.
We frequent chinese buffets more than any other type of buffet. There is a new one in Alcoa TN called Asian buffet. They have the mongolian grill, sushi bar, and the regular offerings you might find.
We used to have a CiCi's Pizza buffet, but it went out of business. There is a Gatti's Pizza buffet if we really want pizza.
We also have Shoney's, Ryan's, KFC buffet. There is a mexican restaurant in town that has a buffet as well. Can't say I really like any of those.

There used to be a very good seafood buffet in Lexington called "The New Orleans House".  It wasn't cheap, but it was good.  We have a Chinese buffet here in Versailles, but it's not good.  The food is not even lukewarm for the most part, other than the soups.

I ate at that Duff's in Pigeon Forge probably 25 years ago. It had a stupid conveyor belt system that you grabbed food off as it went by. It was not my choice but my friends who wanted to "get stuffed at Duff's" I was happy they didn't want to go back there during or vacation.

There was a Duff's in Stuart, Fl that was quite popular during probably the early 80's.
There was quite a large food poisoning incident that made many people sick and sent several to the hospital. Seems like someone died but can't quite remember. That incident really did the place in and though it tried to keep operating it shut down shortly after. The location was as a few months ago operating as an Asian and still had the old Duff's round serving stations.

I've actually never been in the Pigeon Forge location, but if it's what I am thinking, you are referring to the wheel or carousel. I actually thought that was a pretty good idea. It is the most non-intrusive way to keep food on the buffet and also allows patrons not to have to nudge each other oout of the way. The food comes to you. They also had a stationary area that we called the horseshoe. The food worker could fill the buffet from the backside while patrons moved around the shoe to fill their plates.

Little history about Duff's. The founder was a man named Homer Duff. After he sold out, he started another successful buffet named Stacy's. I think he bought up alot of the old Duff locations and put the Stacey's name on them.

Andrea,  There was a "New Orleans House" in Louisville also. several of my kids made it their  Prom-Night Dinner stop back in the 1980's. I always thought that that was a real waste of money (for Prom Night) as most of the kids paid the big bucks (@$30) for the fancy seafood buffet then ate very little of anything !
We last visited the place in the early 90's after it had lost much of it's former quality...and were very disappointed in the poor food offerings and still higher price tag.

Great story!  Two of my grandchildren were free for evening and begging me to take them to their  "favorite Chinese buffet".  So off we go.  The waitress appeared at table for drink orders and I ordered a 1/2 carafe wine and told her that I would not be eating.  She said  "OK"  and soon came back with our drinks and assured me that it was ok for me to just have wine.

I, then , begin to notice that she kept walking  back and forth to our table and looking at us.  The kids were being very polite  and not wasting food so I could not figure out why she kept coming over to our table.  Finally, I asked her if something was wrong and her response was  "No,  the boss man  just wants me to make sure that you do not eat any food."

I loved it!

I had something similar happen once when I took my grandson and a pal of his to the local Frisch's for breakfast. The boys -- both were 10 or 11 at the time -- made four or five trips to the buffet, filling their plates and downing every bite while I just had coffee. A waitress came by the table every few minutes to ask whether I needed a refill of the carafe of coffee. About the fourth time, while I was still on my second cup, I asked her why, for the first time in all the visits to the place a waitstaffer was asking whether I wanted any refills, she told me the manager wanted to make sure I wasn't eating.

There is s Sunday Buffet Brunch in Frederick at Dutche's Daughter, that is spectacular, $25.00 a head, they make a scrambeled egg with jumbo crab and cheese dish that is amazing, everything else is first class, comes with a Mimosa or Bloody Mary, well worth the price and drive for all within a 60 mile radius!

My favorite buffets are the asian ones that include - at no additional charge - a mongolian grill

This my favorite, followed by Golden Corral. At the Asian they have good soups, Mongolian grill, sushi, large variety of "Chinese" food and Hershey's ice cream. Decent price too.

The best buffet I've ever had the distinct pleasure of dining in is, without hesitation, Boma - Flavors of Africa ( http://disneyworld.disney...oma-flavors-of-africa/ ) at the gorgeous Animal Kingdom Lodge in Walt Disney World.

I totally agree, we've eaten there twice.

The Crystal Palace at the Magic Kingdom is our favorite....and we've tried every buffet at Disney World. It's the best way to eat there.  Chef Mickey's is also quality...but for variety and quality...Crystal Palace!!

The Blue Willow Inn in Social Circle, Georgia

It's the best one I've ever been to.

I've been there at least a dozen times over the last decade.  On the way down for the Glee Club gathering in South Carolina two years ago, I couldn't resist.  I just had to go 100 miles out of my way to get there.

Used to like Charlie Williams Pinecrest Lodge in Athens GA.  Another casualty of trying to cheapen the buffet and as a result people stopped coming.

The one in LEX went downhill as well, Al, and became a Chinese buffet.  Go figure.

leethebard Shady Maple in Amish country, by far....

I find that Shady Maple is one of the better breakfast buffets around there, but for lunch and dinner, my favorite is Diener's in Lancaster; I've been eating there on trips in that area from even before they had a buffet, and their food is still just as good as the first time I ate there.

I have on occasion attended special breakfast buffets...Mothers Day...etc..beyond that I avoid buffets like the plague. I prefer my food cooked to order and handled, oogled , or sneezed on by less than three people. We had a Big Country Buffet in a strip mall near our house (now a Super China Buffet). My wife and I decide maybe just once we'd give it a shot. We parked out front and watched a couple people struggling to squeeze through the door (and its not because the place was crowded) and decided we'd hit a diner instead.

The one in the Paradise plaza? I went to the Country buffet there once quite a while ago, I can't even remember who with, or what I had, I just remember not being very content with the whole affair, and I never went back. If I'm out on the Boulevard, I'm probably going to hit El Canelo or Tully's anyway, don't know why the heck I went there.

I used to really like the Der Dutchman buffet in Plain City, OH but the last 2 times went, the fried chicken was just terrible.  I still like the breakfast buffet but rarely make it out there during that time.

I have to admit I liked the Lady & Sons buffet last summer.  The chicken was all hot and fresh and several of the sides were very good.

I like BD's Mongoloan BBQ occasionally though I really only like one of the sauce options (I think it is spicy garlic or somethign like that).

There are also a couple of Indian Buffets that I like for lunch.  I just noticed yesterday that there is a new lunch buffet at the Afghan place near my office (Cafe Kabul) that I might go try soon.

I prefer the Golden Corral in my old home town in Texas.

I've been to a Chinese buffet and Hometown buffet out here.  I would choose the Chinese buffet over Hometown any day as Hometown really didn't have many choices for what I consider good food.

I also like Soup Plantation and usually prefer their salads over the other stuff.

I do like a good salad bar.
