got a big event this w/e so we went to sam's for a few things..... like potatoes........................ 33 bucks for 50# of 70 ct spuds !!!!!??? WTF is up with that ?? last week they were 23 up from 20 now 33.00. a ten dollar jump in less than a week?? lettuce was .99 but they looked like someone took the weak leafs off others and they wrapped them around a damn core !
I use the russets which are always a little more expensive but  damn thats just wrong. I cant absorb that much of an increase. thank God we should be able to get them local before to long.
dogs went up .10 lb. cheese went up .20 lb. peppers cost you a left one, tomatoes want the right one.

Fuel and shipping cost are making it imposable to keep up with what to charge to keep your head above water and not lose your shirt by overpricing your product and keeping the customer happy and coming back. It completly all about how good your product is that will keep them wallets open. It just as you told me Buck. Give them your best and nothing less.

I don't see any relief in sight, the commodity markets are going bonkers right now. All of that cash that Washington is throwing around has to go somewhere to keep this ruse going. The commodity and stock markets are where much of it is ending up, shooting prices through the roof.

And then throw in a collapsing dollar, and we have a recipe for disaster. I just hope we can make it to the end of the year. Last month for every taxpayer dollar the treasury took in, our government spent $8. Tell me how long we can do that before the world tells us to bugger off and dumps the dollar? If that happens we will look back on these days as the good old days.

My plan is to take a small bit of money and buy silver bullion on a weekly basis from my local coin shop. I hope to use that as a hedge against what is coming, as silver is really rolling along, it just went over $40 an ounce this morning. Hopefully it will be enough, the poor man's gold.

Spuds have not gone up much here, I think I paid $9 last week for #2's,  90ct bakers were twice that, tomatoes well over $30,
lettuce, $1.29, onions are holding at $8....meat and cheese is another story.
Diesel went up .11 yesterday, I'm sure it's up again today, oil closed up at around $110 yesterday.
Just wish I had bought $20k in gold 20 years ago and sat on it!

@ CHEF...  I know, I have a necklace that I paid a little under $1000. for about 10 years ago and it's solid gold. I am afraid to have it weighed and see what I can get for it. My jeweler told me to invest in gold about 10 years ago. I wish I had listened to him.

July crude presently $112.33, April crude hit a high of 111.90 so far this morning. April crude will more than likely take out $112 either late today or Monday. Brent crude, which Europe survives on, is already at $124+ a barrel and climbing. Obama has made it clear that we will not drill and we will have to wait for some new miracle energy to power our vehicles, houses and businesses. If we did drill, it would bring some stability to the markets for the sole fact that the ME and Africa are in melt down mode, which just panics the markets with all of the possible supply instability.

The worst thing about all of this, is that we are swimming in oil and gas. We have run out of places to store it on both land and sea. There is no shortage, this is just a reaction to policies, or lack there of, coming out of Washington. The world is pretty much leaderless as we are no longer looked at in a positive light... We are now the sickly little kid on the block. Especially now that we are printing the world's reserve currency like there is no tomorrow. All commodities are priced in US dollars, and they are now worth about as much as the rags they are printed on, which has helped drive commodity prices even higher. Near 100% of this can be blamed on the economic policy of Washington and the fed, as they work their magic unchecked.

In the past few days I have read a few legit financial reports that are predicting $150 to $200 oil sometime this year if nothing changes. Watch the rest of the commodity prices follow along as they continue to hit all time highs and break records across the board.

Get ready, because if nothing changes, we are in for the rides of our lives. Sorry to be a bummer, but in all honesty I am personally scared for my own families future right now. I have played these markets for years and have never seen anything like this in my life.

for once in my life i am glad i have farm land...... was tossing around the idea of growing all my own veggies (tomatoes, onions, garlic, peppers) if for nothing else to be able to bill myself as locally grown fresh and organic..... not tossing it around anymore, now im sitting here trying to figure out how i can get a plow for cheap, lol.....
localnet, i agree 100% with you on the unchecked fragile future we are facing.... the recent political events just reinforce the notion that the powers to be really dont give a rats ass about the people of this nation, or their welfare.

i know one thing.... well never mind, i'll keep that to myself for right now..
suffice to say.... a change is coming, like it or not

Grow the garden! An idea I didn't even think of, not that I am thinking that clearly right now. My neighbor supplies me with some tomatoes during the year, and I have the land and the tools to put in a garden... Need to get my wife started on one here soon, as I totally forgot about even doing that. We used to have a little deli takeout on our land back in the 90's and we grew tomatoes and our own lettuce. I had them waiting in line for my BLT's served on 1/2" thick sliced toasted bread. God they were good!

I think I need to throw my toaster in the trailer... BLT Wednesdays! I could sell a ton of those.

On Edit: Let's just hope I am wrong regarding my last two previous posts, God only knows that I hope I am for all of our sakes and our country's.

I had to take a double take on coffee over the past two weeks around here. The large, blue containers were $9.xx and took a jump to $12.xx last week. Last evening they were almost $19.00 and even the store brand bricks were over $5.25.
