Which Airport? Mesa has several; Falcon Field and PHX Mesa Gateway + Sky Harbor in Phx and Scottsdale Airpark in you guessed it, Scottsdale.
How long will you be here and where will you be staying and what kind of food do you like? Will you have a car? Mesa is a pretty spread out place. From East to West, it's 18 miles long. Close to 500,000 people live there and it's larger than Miami, Cleveland, St. Louis, Minneapolis and Buffetbuster's beloved Pittsburgh!
Mesa is the largest city in the United States that is not a consolidated city-county or a county seat. It covers 133 square miles.
I'll be glad to recommend places once you give me more details.
    Here's a few to start:
http://www.vitospizza.com/ From Chicago. Home base for Cubby's during Spring Training.
    http://www.ranchodetiarosa.com/ Good Mexican, nice atmosphere
http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/22/262722/restaurant/Phoenix/Little-Mesa-Cafe-Mesa Good 1950's decor place for breakfast. Definite hole in the wall. Basic stuff but home cooked and reasonable. Good biscuits and CFS. Good reputation for a fish fry too. "Regulars" in there every morning.
http://www.bjsbrewhouse.com/locations a chain but I like the food, beer and atmosphere.
http://waldosbbq.com/mesa.html just down the street from Little Mesa Cafe. good bbq
http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/Higley-Hot-Dogs-Higley-AZ-m445329.aspx Good Dogs AND VERY CLOSE to Mesa Gateway airport.
http://www.trophyssteakhouse.com/About.html Their theme is the "North American 29". Showcased here are all "29" species of big game animals that inhabit North America. All actual wild game taxidermied

'Nando's' is the best place to dine in Mesa for me. It's not my fav. Mexican restaurant in Az but it's a solid experience. Their website comes off as being a, 'chain' but it isn't.

Used to live in Mesa.  It's been a few years, but we always liked Los Dos Molinos, on S. Alma School Road, between Main Street and Broadway Road.  Mexican, of course.

Technically, Nando's is in Gilbert but close enough. It's less than a mile from my house and yes, it's a very good place for Mexican. I would have listed this one but was looking at places closer to the Airports in question. There are tons of other places to list as well as soon as we hear back from the OP regarding location.

Yep, Los Dos Molinos is still there. The one down on Central Av in South Phoenix has the most "Character". It's in the house that silent movie cowboy star, Tom Mix, lived in. The food is Fiery NM style. Very good.

The Gateway facility is really expanding and is projected to be a major R & D/Technology Center over the next 20 years. ASU already has a PolyTech Campus out there.
Where are you staying and how long will you be here? So many places, so little time!
