We had fun with the Blizzard of 2007 here this past weekend. Survived that, but to wake up to this:

This is the view out my front office door. The one thing that is missing from this picture?? The Majestic Ohio River, which is only about 100 yds from my front door. It is that grey thing in the background! 4 inches and still coming at a rate of 2 inches an hour My son is chomping at the bit to get out and play in it!

C King, We are on the southern edge of that snow-path. Less than an inch on the west side of L-ville. Still cold, but we may see 30 tomorrow. You're a bit too close to the river-edge for me. We are on the top of the Knobs, about 2 road-miles 'above and west' of the Caesar's Casino Boat, downriver from L-ville. No flood possibility here!

Sorry King, you may have seen this already, but this is the view from the front door of MY office...I spent so many long cold winters in Iowa and Germany, I couldn't imagine living back in that stuff again. The nice thing about AZ is that we can still drive a couple hours and get to the snow when we want, and leave when we get tired of it. It's funny, I have a daughter who complains all the time about the nice weather. She likes it best when it is cold and rainy!

Hello All, We finally have our first real snow of the winter here in Rockingham County, Va.. No school for my son tomorrow, yippee. We have about 3 inches...that is 3 inches of snow, my dear friend Cajunking ( have to be precise or the cajunking's mind goes into strange places, like in the weird dreams he has.) Driving home from work this morning at 4 a.m. was fun. Of course this is the first snow, and my tone would be different if it were the 6th snowfall, which would be more normal for our area. It will be a beautiful day tomorrow and hard for me to sleep. I love it. Take Care, Fieldthistle

KMAN, I have some sympathy for you! I taught in a small town near I-81 between Syracuse and Watertown NY..and Attended Grad School at Oswego State for 4 years in the evening after teaching during the day. Remember that I am a Southern Californian by heritage and upbringing...Man what a shock I got that first winter. I consider our little snow fall and cold weather here in the Ohio River Valley to be fairly mild compared to that experience in your home territory. I should have known I was in for it when I registered for evening classes that first year, and saw the lifelines running from the parking lots to the entrances of the buildings! They were more than a necessity!!!

Al weather broke enough for me to head out of Redfield & back to Syr. Guess we been making the news all over. My Cookshack is a hostage of the weather though. No way I can drag it through the drifts. Will look for it in May.

DD I will trade you Al Yes, the flood of 97 came about 7 feet up my office wall, we used a canoe to get through the front window to check on something in the garage (fuel oil tank) Almost 10 years later and there still is a fine silt on the floor in the closet. At 56 feet I get nervous, REAL NERVOUS! Kman I feel for you, I lived in Rochester, NY for a year and worked for Hertz, went to work one day with a flurry in the air, the wind shifted and I got stuck at the airport for 5 days under 8 feet of the stuff. Needless to say I asked for a transfer that spring. Sorry to hear your cookshack is hostage I did this last night on mine. Sorry to rub it in.

Paul, That is indeed good news!! I hope you are not too used to the weather in Houston, I have a feeling Knoxville is going to be a little colder than 75.

Frank, Sorry to burst your bubble, I have lived down floating through the bayous for several years, learning about cooking and life from those magnificent people. I have been exiled to Damn Yankee country for several years, I try and visit often. So for now my bayou has to be the Mighty Ohio, and I can dream about floating down to NOLA like Huck Finn.

Except for the mountains part, that sounds like the forecast for NYC. We're getting a few flakes as I type. But I am flying on Friday to ABQ/SF for a week, so I guess we'll be right at home
