In the Heart of Memphis

If you haven't yet made plans to join the Roadfood Eating Tour of Memphis and Arkansas on October 18 & 19, 2013, now is the time to do so. Reasonable plane fares are still available (Memphis is a Delta/Northwest hub), and Stephen has just secured us a special rate at the Spring Hill Suites in downtown Memphis. (Click HERE for a King Bed Suite @ $139 per night, or HERE for a two Queen Bed Suite @ $139 per night; the Group Code discount is automatically entered for you.) This hotel puts us within easy walking distance from The Little Tea Shop, Charlie Vergos' Rendezvous, Dyers Burgers, Beale Street, etc., etc. [READ MORE]

What's To Eat on the Fall Tour?

There will be pies galore, in Memphis and especially in Arkansas. Cream pies, fruit pies, fried pies, and one-of-a-kind pies.

Grand Finale

Saturday in Arkansas, after being special guests at the World Cheese Dip Championship competition and comparing and contrasting barbecue at McClard's and Stubby's in Hot Springs, we will conclude the day with dinner at Doe's Eat Place in Little Rock. [READ MORE]

This may be considered heresy around here, but I actually think the steaks at the Little Rock location of Doe's are even better than at the original in Greenville, MS.

Michael, you have me swooning with those pie photos!

The King Rooms were blocked so I called the hotel and they are working on the problem. Doubles work fine. Stephen - is parking included? They told me yes but my confirmation says otherwise. Thanks!

When is this officially officially over on Sat. I need to catch the 'red eye' flight back for work in Arizona. Thanks

I've sent three emails to administrators with basic questions about this trip. I've received nothing but silence. How can anyone travel plan with such silence. Very disappointing road food.com

Turns out you must stay at the hotel/motel Roadfood wants you to stay at so essentially you'll be denied entrance onto the tour bus if you don't present proof of your accommodationsfor those of us who can't afford $150 a night we're pretty much screwed.

Hi fortbethel - While I am not privy to any exchanges you may have had with the trip organizers, this will be my 5th or 6th in a row. Previously, folks have stayed at different hotels. A good example would be local folks who would not even require a hotel. I have always seen the ticket sale separate from the hotel reservation. For this trip, I purchased my trip ticket way before the hotel was even mentioned. Most folks ask about an actual ticket but there has never been one as the trip is 50 or less folks. We do meet at the hotel as the bus needs somewhere to pick-up and drop off. If you have different info, I apologize in advance but in previous years, there has always been a smattering of hotels.

ChiTownDiner, thank you for this insight still I am heartbroken that now I can not make this trip because of the silence and uncoroperation on Roadfood's part for the past two weeks has made the air fair practically double in price.

Please feel free to PM me anytime...the tour has always run pretty smooth in the past. Its a pretty low key event as it is really just one bus load. Not sure if you were coming through Chicago but Southwest just announced Memphis fares of $79! Starts later in August!

Bless you CTD. You have restored my faith in possibly making this trip but just possibly.

forbethel -- I have been on 2 Roadfood eating tours (Buffalo/Rochester, NY and New Mexico) and it was not required that we stay at the tour-designated hotel. Both times I stayed at a different hotel. The only caveat was that the tour bus picks up and drops off only at the tour hotel, so you just have to get yourself back and forth from your hotel to the tour hotel. Hope you can go -- it is a lot of fun.
