way back when ..... growing up in NY with my Polish parents my Mom would make potato pancakes served only with salt along with bowls of Manhattan clam chowder ... this was our every Friday meatless supper. It always seemed so natural where you could not have one with out the other. The Polish Jews in out community called them "latkes" we Catholics called them "placki" but they both were made the same way.
