"A glorious cinnamon roll: light, flaky, sweet, and satisfying"
Michael Stern
"For those who aren't morning coffee drinkers, San Marcos Cafe makes first-rate hot chocolates."
Cliff Strutz
"Even though there are no eggs visible, they are there, wrapped inside the tortilla. We especially liked the chile here, with the green being much hotter."

"Coffee’s good at the San Marcos café. These nice mugs are for sale as souvenirs."
Michael Stern
"An unusual sight: the San Marcos dining room with available seats. Despite its relatively remote location, it is a popular destination eatery, and a super-convenient stop for folks on their way to Cerrillos or Madrid. If you plan on eating here on a weekend morning, it’s best to call ahead and make sure there’s room."
Michael Stern
"We’re not sure who the dog is or what the skull signifies, but the rooster on the refrigerator magnets in the upper left and lower right is Buddy, who for five years in the early 1990s served as unofficial maitre d’ at the San Marcos Café. When Buddy passed away, many customers mourned. And although a few other roosters have been named to take his place, none has ever had the people skills that Buddy did."

"One of the house peacocks displays his colors outside the front door. Note the white pea hens behind him on both sides."
Michael Stern
"Not that he’ll likely be mistaken for the Duke, but Michael couldn’t help striking a John Wayne pose in a doorway to the side of the San Marcos Café."
