Even though I am a ham lover, the idea of a 64-year old ham holds no appeal. Don't worry though, the ham you eat at Stan's will undoubtedly be much newer.

Stan's is probably best known for their country ham. They serve a fine version of this classic mid-South dish.

Although it may call itself a country store and restaurant, Stan's has enough neon lights - and a jukebox - to make a legitimate claim to being a straight-out juke joint. Also, unlike many meat-and-three stops, Stan's serves beer.

Be forewarned: traditional knick-knacks such as mammies and Confederate flag-emblazoned items sit quite openly on the shelves at Stan's. This is no sanitized Cracker Barrel.

Located just off Exit 46 on Interstate 65, some 40 miles south of Nashville, Stan's is the genuine article of a down-home eatery, gift shop, and truck stop. Several motels are located within walking distance.
