Maine's summer feast: a shore dinner featuring lobster, steamers, corn, potatoes, and plenty of drawn butter for dipping everything.

Lobster is the thing to eat at Five Islands, but the excellent fried clams should not be overlooked.

Blueberries are as much a Maine dish as lobsters, and the blueberry cake available here is a homespun classic: moist, creamy, and dotted with bright berry flavor.

We had to convince one old salt to sell us a bottle of Moxie, which she promised was too bitter for travelers unaccustomed to the Yankee beverage that was originally marketed as nerve tonic.

Slices of blueberry cake and brownies are sold on the honor system. Leave a dollar for each one you take.

No deluxe amenities can compete with the natural ambience of dinner at Five Islands Lobster Company. The view of the pine-topped islands on a nice summer day is calm, beautiful, pure Downeast.

Is the lobster fresh? Five Islands picnic tables afford a view of lobstermen bringing in their traps.

Does this building look familiar? A few years ago there was an auto commercial (Toyota?) where a New York businessman supposedly drives all the way to New England just to have some clam chowder for lunch. The exterior shots were filmed right here.
