Johnnie's Grill

301 S. Rock Island, El Reno, OK - (405) 262-4721
Onion-fried burgers are Johnnie's claim to fame. Ribbons of onion are mashed deep into the top of a patty of ground beef as it cooks on the grill, resulting in a hamburger that is a delicious intertwined mix of meat and caramelized onion. Also notable: slaw-topped Coney Island hot dogs.

The Reese's pie features four distinct layers: a graham cracker crust, a layer of dense, rich peanut butter, sweet, light chocolate, all covered by a thin whipped topping. This was an outstanding slice of pie.

Known on the menu as chocolate mystery, this beautiful, rugged looking slice of pie is full of nuts and chocolate chips.

The sauce on a Johnnie's Coney is sweet and zesty -- an ideal companion for the chili atop the wiener.

Steve Galaway, proprietor of Johnnie's, is a fount of burger lore. If you look closely at the menu on the wall behind him, you’ll see listings for a couple of locally beloved cheap-eats specialties other than onion-fried burgers: corn dogs and Fritos pie.

One of the basic rules of finding good Roadfood is that almost every place that boasts it is the home of anything is worth checking out. Johnnie’s, home of the onion-fried burger, is an excellent example.
