"My girlfriend and I ran across the Charcoal Pit while trying to avoid all the toll roads and bridges on the way home from Philly. We saw a sign for a diner and thought "let's go!" We saw the diner and thought "oh, it's just a Greek restaurant - it doesn't even LOOK ..."   [Read More]

"These are great natural tasting burgers, prepared exactly the way a burger should be cooked. Shakes and malts are thick and rich, and served in a frosted metal mixing cup, just like in an old fashioned ice cream parlor. The ice cream desserts are named after local ..."   [Read More]

The dieter's special (not): cake topped with ice cream topped with gobs and gobs of hot fudge topped with whipped cream and, all but obsured by the foamy rich white crown, a sugary red maraschino cherry.

This is the way we like to see a milk shake presented: in a tall silver beaker that holds at least two servings. In the glass are a straw (useless) and a spoon for scooping the extra-thick shake from its icy vessel.

A classic Deluxe Cheeseburger. This is the standard four-ouncer. A double-size half-pound hamburger is also available. The fries, by the way, are excellent.

Most customers come to the Charcoal Pit for cheeseburgers and sandwiches. But the crabcakes are not to be dismissed.
