Powell & Stokes

217 US 13 N, Windsor, NC - (800) 457-0005
A decades-old farm supply and feed store that has also been processing peanuts since 1915. The specialty is "blister-fried nuts," which are boiled, then immersed in hot oil while still wet so they develop a wicked crunch. Chocolate-covered peanuts are unspeakably delicious. Also available are burlap bags full of roasted-in-the shell peanuts and shelled redskins.

" We went to Bertie County to eat great barbecue – which we did – but while there, we also came across some beautiful peanuts. North of Windsor on Route 1 is Powell & Stokes, a decades-old farm supply and feed store that has also been processing peanuts since 1915. ..."   [Read More]

Three varieties of nut available at Powell & Stokes. While the plain jumbo blister-fried nuts are superb, we love all the variations.

Although Powell & Stokes started selling peanuts to the public in 1994, they have been buying, drying, cleaning, grading and selling them wholesale since 1915. If you like peanuts, you NEED to visit this place!

We spotted this bag of nuts in the corner of a local barber shop. We're not sure why they were there, but it seems perfectly normal in Bertie County to see peanuts wherever you go.
