Evelyn's Drive-In

2335 Main Rd., Tiverton, RI - (401) 624-3100
Evelyn’s is a drive-in with the nicest possible outdoor dining area: a row of covered picnic tables perched over Sakonnet Bay with a view of pleasure boats and the Newport shores. Fried clam clam cakes, and all kinds of other seafood star on the menu, and here you also will find that local oddity, a chow mein sandwich.

"Sometimes food is just food, but sometimes it's an epiphany. Evelyn's belly clams were a clam epiphany. As a born-and-bred Midwesterner, I hardly qualify as an expert on clam shacks or seafood, but I've eaten at a few. After reading the Roadfood recommendations I ..."   [Read More]

"If you'd like a nice clam-shack meal, Rhody-style, head down to the pleasant country roads of Tiverton and stop at Evelyn's. In particular, go with the "cakes-and-chowder" combo. The chowder is the thin, brothy kind- unique to the South Coast and just shore-liney ..."   [Read More]

A weird specialty we've found only in easternmost Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although called a sandwich, it cannot be picked up in your hands. At Lowe’s Chinese Food Stand in Salem, Mass., they serve their chop suey sandwich wrapped in a cone made of paper with a fork stuck in the middle.

Want true shoreline ambience? Carry your own from Evelyn's pick-up window to a table under this pavilion by the water.

By the water at Evelyn's. This fellow was throwing bits of his fried clams to the seagulls, who took the cue and flocked around.
