Bunnery

121 St. George St., St. Augustine, FL - (904) 829-6166
We enjoyed something called blueberry boybait, which is a crumb-cake square chockablock with berries and topped with a blanket of powdered sugar. It paired well with Bunnery's coffee.

"When it opens at 8am, the Bunnery has the feel of a local cafe. Many customers are known to the staff and the help-yourself coffee service encourages friendly interaction. Later in the morning as St. George Street crowds with tourists, the noise level increases and it ..."   [Read More]

As fetched from the case, the cinnamon roll looks bare and sad. But then the server asks, 'Icing?' He pulls out a pitcher and starts to pour. 'Tell me when,' he says as the sugary white stuff cascades out to coat the roll.

For all those who consider crust a mere vehicle for the good part of pecan pie -- the goo and the nuts -- the Bunnery's pecan pie squares are just the ticket. Really, really rich!

I am not sure why this lovely cake square is called blueberry boybait. I should think that girls would be equally impressed by its moistness and big berry flavor.

Make sure you have plenty of napkins handy when eating the sticky and sweet strawberry strudel.

The Bunnery's croissants are supremely buttery and flaky. This one is filled with ham and cheese.

Built upon a very soft, absorbent biscuit, Southern Eggs is sausage gravy that is peppery and creamy, thick but not overwhelming. Atop the gravy in this picture are a couple of over-easy eggs. The grits in the little bowl are irrelevant.

I took this picture of the Bunnery early in the morning. Any time after 9am, it would be nearly impossible to get a picture without people walking along St. George Street. It is the main tourist thoroughfare in St. Augustine.
