Leon's Bar-B-Que

1158 W. 59th St., Chicago, IL - (773) 778-7828
These ribs are superb: crusty, juicy, infused with hot sauce that has a way of dripping all over one’s lap and front seat upholstery. Heaped upon the meat come good French fries and white bread, both of which serve high purpose as soaks and conduits for Leon’s good sauce.

"Don’t expect to sit down for a wonderful meal at Leon’s. In fact, don’t expect to sit down at all. Leon's has no tables and chairs; all business is take-out. Pay the server behind the bulletproof glass and receive a bag filled with some of Chicago’s most delicious ..."   [Read More]

"Well, the explosion hasn't happened yet so that made today's meal even better! I found myself on the south side of Chicago and finally made it over to the fabulous Leon's. I didn't know what to expect but it was truly a memorable experience. Michael Stern's review ..."   [Read More]

Here's what you see when you unwrap your order of rib tips and remove the slices of white bread that are atop it: French fries sopped with hot sauce and, below them, a mountain of utterly delicious sauce-crusted meat.

This huge sausage has serious crunch on the outside; its interior is rugged-cut pork with plenty of spice. When you order it (or any of the rib dishes), you'll be asked if you want your sauce medium or hot. We love the latter, which is not four-alarm, but will make your lips glow for a good hour afterwards.

The little pass-through window at the right is where you place your order and slide money to the waitress. The large round thing at the left is a circular delivery system that ensures no one in the waiting room can ambush anyone in the kitchen. If you look hard through the bulletproof glass, you'll see stacks and stacks of white bread, which is provided as a good mop with all barbecue orders.
