"Thank you, Wanderingjew! When our intrepid Roadfood friend offers eating advice, we pay attention; so even though we had a way-too-long hit list of Seattle-area restaurants and way too little time to sample them all, his suggestion that we head out to Kirkland for fish ..."   [Read More]

A single order of cod is a very nice-sized meal, and a big bargain at $5.11. Bigger appetites can go for a double or triple order. Although presented in a lowly cardboard boat, it is fish-and-chips royalty.

Moist? Sweet? Delicious? Yes, to the third degree. There is nothing outlandish about this hand-breaded cod filet, but it is indubitably outstanding.

The menu lists onion rings as 'home style.' I don't know what home they're talking about, because to me, Spud's O-Rings are restaurant cookery at its finest. Each ring has a severe crunch to its coat, while the onion inside is soft and sweet.

You will pay 25 cents extra for tartar sauce (or 50 cents for a family pack). Splurge! It is excellent sauce, loaded with crunchy bits of pickle.

Two members of the staff behind the counter strongly suggested we go for the hand-breaded tiger shrimp rather than the smaller Buffalo shrimp. We never did try the latter, but have no regrets about ordering these handsome big boys.

Like the happy pigs on the signs outside of Southern barbecue parlors, Spud's piscatorial mascot seems to beckon customers to come inside and eat him.

It's a good half hour (much more in traffic) to get from Seattle out to Kirkland, but if you like fish and chips, it is a journey you'll be happy to have made.

Guess what? It was raining in Seattle the day we visited Spud Fish and Chips. Dining at the outdoor picnic tables was out of the question.
