Hubba

24 North Main St., Port Chester, NY - (914) 939-7271
The chili at this unabashed hash house is all-beef, no bean, hot and greasy -- a love-it-or-hate-it thing that probably is too intense to have alone on a plate, but works great to enhance just about any other kind of dish, from eggs to grinders.

"The sign outside says Hubba, but long-time fans call it Pat's, honoring the former owner who named it Pat's Hubba Hubba. Before that, it was Texas Quick Lunch, a diner we well remember from the earliest days of our Roadfood travels for its hot, hot chili and kindly ..."   [Read More]

Not for the fastidious greasephobe, Hubba's chili quite literally swims in oil. Few people order it all by itself, but the management was happy to let us sample a dish. They warned that we might find it too hot. It was not ferocious and in fact it had a rather pleasant grainy texture and rich beef taste. But after several forkfuls, we agreed that it was much better in concert with a hot dog.

You are looking at pretty much all there is to Hubba, front to back. Note the wallpaper (and ceiling paper).

Much of Hubba's menu is sandwiches, but if you get eggs for breakfast early in the morning (or very late at night), these forks set out on the counter will come in handy.

There has been a cheap-eats joint located in this spot on Port Chester's Main Street for decades.
