La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant

396 1st St SE, Bandon, OR - (541) 347-2450

Located in Bandon's historic area, La Fiesta is supposed to be a great Mexican restaurant but you wouldn't know if from the crowds. Walking inside, I see that the place is completely empty (turns out I escaped the dinner rush by about 45 minutes).

"Are you closed?" I ask the waiter. "No, no," he says. "Sit anywhere."

So I grab a seat and order a beer and the chile colorado. The waitstaff was immediately buzzing around me like bees, asking if everything is alright, did I need anything, etc. This is quite nice... for like, five minutes. Then it starts getting awkward. But I hesitate to say anything too negative about it. After all, I'd rather have overeager staff than nonexistent ones. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, as they say.

The food is excellent and the portions huge. My bill totalled $20, which included a 25% tip, two bottles of beer, a side order of guacamole and dinner.

The friendly service and excellent food guarantee that if I ever return to Bandon, La Fiesta is a must.

PS - I've heard the shrimp fajitas are heavenly!

The enchiladas are big enough that a single shrimp enchilada makes a meal.

Camarones al Mojo is shrimp fried along with garlic, mushrooms, onions, and spices. We really liked this dish.

The salsa served with the chips is chunky and very hot!

As you can see from the photo, the portions are huge. After scarfing down chips, salsa, guacamole plus my dinner I felt like a stuffed turkey!

Based on the location and architectural style, the building looks like it should be a seafood shack, but La Fiesta prides itself on serving authentic Mexican food.
