Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burger

In my pantheon of great burgers, Krazy Jim's is right there at the top. I'm torn between this place and one in my hometown. They're simply that good. Small meat balls are smashed on a flat top. You order however many you want on your bun (one to five) and then your modifiers like bacon, cheese, or salami. There are bun options as well. In the fryolated arts department, the onion rings are breaded right in front of you before hitting the oil.

Blimpy Burger is a tiny place. Seating is very limited and grabbing a table before getting in line is not permitted. They encourage people to eat and leave. With a line that often snakes out the door they have a pretty regimented ordering system that, while rather "Soup Nazi"-ish, really helps keep the line moving. You can find the info you need on their website, on the wall, or just answer the questions asked and don't jump ahead, lest you be scolded. One last thing: no electronic devices in line. Lest you be scolded.

While these are good and are battered and fried right in front of you, I prefer the puffier, beer batter type of ring. Good is good though and these certainly are.

One of America's great burger griddles. As you go through the line, watching Blimpies made is hypnotic entertainment. Note how each patty starts nearly spherical, but winds up pancake-flat.

The Pepper Steak Bullet comes sandwiched in a superb onion roll. It is three patties topped with provolone, ranch dressing, scallions, bacon, roasted peppers, grilled onions and cracked pepper.

The quadruple burger, here with bacon and cheese, isn't as physically imposing as it sounds.  Still, one of these, along with a side of fries or rings, should satisfy most healthy appetites.

This is a top two burger for me. I'm not sure it's my favorite but it's no less than second best. It's quite simple and that's just the way it oughta be. Absolutely fabulous. A quad seems to be just the right amount of meat. The onion bun is a nice option.

Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burger is a popular place and there almost always is a line snaking through the dining room. One of the reasons customers are asked to bus their own tables when they're finished is that it would be too difficult for a member of the staff to squeeze through the crowds to clean up.
