Lane Southern Orchards

50 Lane Road, Fort Valley, GA - (478) 825-3362

Lane Southern Orchards is a roadside market and much more. It is located in Peach County, where more peaches are grown than any in other county in Georgia. Although it is open year round, your experience at Lane’s will vary with the season. To enjoy Lane’s fully, a visit during the peach growing season is a must. From mid-May to mid-August, around 30 different varieties of peaches ripen at different times in the surrounding orchards.

The drive to Lane’s from Interstate I-75 takes less than ten minutes and is well worth it for a dessert break. Peach cobbler and ice cream are the main attractions at Lane’s Peachtree Cafe & Bakery. But there are lots of other good choices at the dessert counter such as fried peach pies and pecan squares.

The pecan pie is rich and gooey and is loaded with pecans. It can be bought by the slice or whole pie.

There are tables for either inside and outside eating. The rocking chairs outside in the front are a popular place for eating the ice cream.

Lane’s also serves lunch with standard sandwich fare and a few other hot entrees. However, lunch is not the real Roadfood appeal of Lane’s. In the spring, you can pick your own strawberries if you want or just buy them already picked. Other locally grown produce such as tomatoes, butterbeans and corn is seasonally available. In the fall, the pecan harvest begins in the nearby groves.

In summary, a trip to Lane Southern Orchards is a great Deep South food excursion.

July 14, 2014 Update

The Peachtree Cafe changed their lunch menu in the spring of 2014. The good salad bar is now gone. The soup bar is gone. The hot food buffet is gone. The really good cinnamon rolls are no longer sold.
