Country's is a special place for more than just its barbecue. Yes, the barbecue is fine. But all the other Southern food is what makes Country’s stand out from many other barbecue places in Georgia.
The barbecue pork is cooked over hickory and oak. It has a mild smoked taste and the serving size is generous. The chopped barbecue pork platter is brought to your table without sauce. And it tastes fine without any sauce. However, there are three bottles of sauce on each table to choose - from mild to hot. And one is a mustard-based sauce.
Choices other than pork barbecue include fried or grilled chicken platters, regular ribs or premium St. Louis style ribs, and fried chicken livers. The fried chicken is cooked to order, so the waitress may warn you that it may be 15 minutes before you will be served.
Brunswick stew is served as a side dish. It is delicious, with lots of meat in a tasty tomato base. Other sides include black-eyed peas and cabbage, both cooked Southern-style with meat. Sliced tomatoes are another side dish and they taste fine, even off-season.
Sweet potato soufflé is sometimes on the menu as a daily special. This sweet potato dish with brown sugar and pecans is excellent.
Platters come with a choice of bread: standard sliced white bread, cornbread, or French bread (which might better be described as Texas toast). Lots of beverage choices are available including fresh-squeezed lemonade, apple cider and steamed hot chocolate.
The homemade desserts are a real treat and they include goober pie, coconut cream pie, and lemon pie.
Country's on Broad is in former Trailways bus station and the 50’s atmosphere adds to the appeal.

"At first glance, it may appear that this 1946 bus is merely parked in the bay. But actually it is part of the restaurant and you can eat inside of the bus."
