"Sauce in Eastern North Carolina is unique: it packs a vinegar-pepper punch and is more the consistency of a marinade than a thick tomato sauce. Bunn's meat comes slightly sauced and quite moist, so this good stuff isn't necessary; but it does add a nice kick to the meat. Texas Pete hot sauce is also available if you want a seriously incendiary meal."

Bunn's is yet more proof that great restaurants are found in former filling stations. That's what the building was before 1938, when it became a barbecue parlor. There's still an old Texaco pump outside; and the place is decorated inside and out with vintage signs, ads, and ephemera. The atmosphere is vaguely similar to what the Cracker Barrel chain aims to create; but in this case, it is real.
