Walls' Drive In

Highway 66, Cannelton, IN - (812) 547-8501

Walls’ “Big Square Burger” is indeed square, but it isn’t really huge. It is a modest-sized patty, available in the “Big Square Box” configuration, which means fully dressed with French fries and baked beans on the side. If you really do have a big appetite, you can get a double-size square burger or, better yet, a “Wall Banger Special,” which is a Big Square topped with melted cheese and a round of Canadian bacon.

Beyond hamburgers, this jolly year-around drive-in on the Indiana side of the Ohio River has an exemplary regional fast-food menu featuring crisp-fried tenderloins (those are pounded-thin rounds of pork on a bun), hot dogs, and plump Polish sausages. Good ice cream, too, either hard-packed or soft-serve.

It is a very pleasant place for a snack, day or night. There are shaded picnic tables on the broad green lawn out back; but of course many summertime regulars who come in the evening choose to dine in the parking lot, off their dashboards with windows open, so they can engage in the classic drive-in ritual of car-to-car socializing.
