Essex Seafood seemed to be more of a fried seafood platter type restaurant than a lobster pound to me. We tried to order 2 lb lobsters but what they offered were up to 1 1/2 lbs, or they had a 4 1/4 lb lobster which we ordered at $13.00 per lb - a kind of bad move on our part for it defeated the purpose of having a moderately priced meal. Also, the large lobster was a little tough. We also ordered a combo clam and haddock basket that was great.
Our bill was upwards of $90.00, so just don't do what we did. Order the fried fish baskets with tasty fries and onion rings - or a two 1 lb lobster platter for $25.95. There were quite a few other patrons and everyone ordered the fried fish baskets, not lobster. Go to Chauncey Chauncy Creek Lobster Pound in Kittery Point for a great lobster experience.
"Essex Seafood may be mainly a lobster pound, but this is the North Shore of Massachusetts and their fried clams (here mixed with onion rings) are world class."

"Though not as generous with the clams in their chowder as other local places, it is still very creamy and delicious."

"Even though there is a large selection of seafood and non-seafood to choose from, the lobster and fried clams remain the essential "must eats.""

"This happy little lobster pound also makes excellent fried seafood. Dine in this building, or around back at picnic tables. "

"Unlike many of the other North Shore seafood restaurants, Essex Seafood is open year round. Note the happy fish with the frying pan."
