I worked in Damariscotta, ME in June and ate at Red's three times. Walking by just as they were closing one evening, I was repeatedly asked if I wanted something; Red's was shut and the owners were about to leave. They insisted and prepared an inexpensive large grilled cheese sandwich. I went back one later evening for their great clam roll; hot fried clams piled up on the roll and falling all over plate.
My wife flew up to join me for a week vacation and we were back at Red's for their renowned lobster roll (gobs of tender lobster meat heaped on a toasted bun and eaten, in our case, with just clear drawn butter). Boy did it meet and exceed expectations. Even if you are not hungry, if you drive through Wiscasset, you absolutely must stop at Red's and order a lobster roll to go.

Overall: Worth planning a day around

Reviewers "Must Eats" List
"Red's boasts that each lobster roll contains all the meat from a one-pound lobster, and then some. Rolls are served with melted butter (or mayo) on the side for you to drizzle on as desired."

"Lobster doesn't come any tastier than what they serve at Red's Eats. Somewhere underneath all the meat is a perfectly toasted bun."

"Amazingly, no matter how long the line waiting to place orders up front, there always seem to be available seats at the picnic tables in back."

"You will easily spend as much for a meal at this ultra-casual roadside stand as you would in a nice restaurant; but no "nice" restaurant we know has a lobster roll as good as Red's."

"Here I am in the middle of landlocked Nebraska, 2000 miles from Wiscasset, wishing I could order a lobster roll from Red's. Charles Kuralt once did a program on Red's back when he had his "On the Road" TV show."
