After seeing the Ramona Cafe featured on "Drive-ins, Diners and Dives," we decided to take a drive out to the country for lunch. We were VERY disappointed!
I ordered the fried chicken Cordon Bleu that was rated so highly on the show. After waiting almost an hour for our food to arrive, it was dry and lukewarm. The mashed potatoes were barely warm, and the same for the gravy. My dining partners ordered fish and chips, and chicken fried steak. The CFS arrived hot and tasty.
The waitress kept forgetting to bring us items that came with our meals, and every time her excuse was "I never work the lunch shift, only the breakfast shift." The best part about the meal was the dinner salad, and that isn't saying much. This will be my first and last visit to the Ramona Cafe!
"A “blue-ribbon” cinnamon roll sized for two"

"Ramona Cafe seems to do the classic comfort foods really well. The hot meatloaf sandwich is served with excellent bread and real mashed potatoes with lots of lumps."

"Note how crisp the edges of the corned beef hash are beneath the fried eggs: delicious!"

"There is plenty of sweet fruit in this slice of boysenberry crunch pie."

"You can barely see gravy, cheese, ham, and sausage peeking out from below the sunnyside-up eggs. Not shown: big biscuit that comes on the side."

"This is an impressive pie selection!"

"This café has been a waystation east of San Diego for the better part of a century"
