Walter's

937 Palmer Ave., Mamaroneck, NY -
Posted By yuppicide on 2/12/2011 12:02:00 AM
I have not been to Walter's, but have eaten their hot dogs a bunch of times. My mom's husband was born in the area and I believe his grandmother almost married Walter. He'd always bring home 20 or 30 and they'd be gone by the next day.

The hot dogs are simple, split down the middle. I believe they are made from a mix of veal and pork. They are grilled and served on a bun with their special mustard. Fantastic!

I'm planning on going there when it gets warmer. I'm over an hour away.

This bun snapped at the hinges, but all the essential elements are visible - the toasted roll, the split dog, and the mustard/relish.

Order at one window and slide down to the next window to get your dogs. There are some tables off to the side in a little grove.

Walter's pagoda-like style harkens back to a time when fast-food restaurants sought to look different from anything else, thus attracting curious motorists.
