Here it is! Probably the very best Roadfood destination in Northeast Pennsylvania. Tony's Restaurant is a very unique place, opened 61 years ago by Sicilian immigrant Anthony "Tony" Zambito. His son Jimmy Zambito cooks now and is a stand-up comedian with a spatula in his hand. The food is as outrageous as his sense of humor.

My favorite breakfast is the "Fat Bastard Omelette": sausage, meatballs, onions, hot peppers, cheese, and a nice spoonful of homemade sauce with some cheese sprinkled on top. It also comes with a side of sausage Parmesan and Italian toast. Lots of food with strange names but awesome flavor. His "Sta Minchia" sandwich is capicola, meatballs, onions, peppers, cheese, and sauce on the "culo" (end) of the bread.

If you don't like onions or whatever, be prepared to pick them off yourself. Jimmy puts what needs to be on the sandwich. If you want it ruined, do it yourself. Order whatever kind of toast you want, you'll get Italian.

This is a pure family operation. Jimmy mans the grill in the front window, his wife Julie handles the dining room, his sister Angie takes care of the counter, and his son Tony does a little bit of everything.

Warning!!! Tony's is known as the unofficial headquarters of the Republician Party in Luzerne County. Still, Democrats come in for some friendly banter and great food; no hurt feelings here, mainly because the food is that good. The walls are covered with newspaper stories about Tony's and doctored up photos of whatever.

So listen, don't be thin-skinned. Sit down, and mangia zitto (eat and shut-up). Jimmy always says "don't worry, if I throw you out today, I'll let you back in tomorrow because the food is that good."

This is a classic. The hoagie bun is toasted on the outside, then filled with porketta, cheese, onions, and hot peppers.

Hey who's that... why it's JoePa and he's carring a loaf of Agostini's Sicilian bread.
