Southern Style Family Dining

All of the food I tried at Southern Style Family Dining was fantastic. The menu focuses on traditional Southern fare with occasional Cajun recipes, such as the excellent gumbo and rice and beans.

The specialty of the house, and most recommended, is the Apache-seasoned pork chops. Meaty, tender, and just spicy enough, I had them with collard greens, which had a sizable amount of pork cooked in, and a cucumber and onion salad that was very good. The pork tenderloin sandwich, a local Hoosier favorite, was bigger than the size of my hand. The meat was again tender and flavorful. I paired this with creamy mac 'n' cheese and the collard greens again, they were that good. I also recommend the roast pork Manhattan. The meat just falls apart on a bed of mashed potatoes and white bread, with a more than generous serving of gravy.

I ate here several times and would recommend everything on the menu. A parking lot sits off to the side if you are driving a large vehicle through, so you should have no trouble finding space. Definitely a must if your are on your way to the Indy 500 and looking for something satisfying and reasonable.

Fried chicken is not on the menu, but is a frequent special. We found the meat a little on the dry side, but enjoyed the Cajun seasoning of the skin.

Couple of sandwiches I snapped before the waitress delivered them, both huge: cheese steak and a burger.
