For Old World Polish food in a casual setting at reasonable prices, it is hard to beat Babushka's. You can come here for a hoagie of smoked kielbasa or meat loaf or indulge in a lavish 'Hunter's Feast' of stuffed cabbage, kielbasa, roast pork, sauerkraut and dumplings, a jumbo pierogi, sour cream, rye bread and butter, plus two side dishes from a list that includes dreamy-good mashed potatoes, tomato dumpling soup, Polish cucumber salad, and halushka.

It's tough to make a choice. The kielbasa is deliciously unctuous. Czernina soup, the traditional sweet-and-sour brew made with duck, prunes, and dumplings, is served in a charming little ramekin with a bird on its lid. Potato pancakes yield to the edge of a fork with a serious crunch, but then open up to become the most luxurious tender spuds.

We love a meal known as The Warsaw, which consists of potato pancakes sandwiching grilled onions, sauerkraut, roast pork and gravy, with a good measure of sour cream on top. And if you like stuffed cabbage, you must get Babushka's. These 'golabki,' enveloped in a rich, sweet-and-sour tomato gravy, are the gold standard.

The menu lists The Warsaw as NEW. It is an inspired fork-and-knife 'sandwich' of slow-roasted and beautifully seasoned pork with sauerkraut, sweet onions and gravy, leavened by a dollop of sour cream on top.

We thought we were looking at a pastry known as a cream horn or coronet, but in the European-accented restaurants and bakeries of Northern Ohio, the featherweight cookie filled with cream is known as a Lady Lock.

You get six jumbo pierogis of your choice on the pierogi platter. We went with two sauerkraut, two mushroom and Swiss, and two potato, bacon, and cheddar.

For those with a truly healthy appetite, the Hunter's feast is the way to go. This includes stuffed cabbage, smoked kielbasi, roast pork loin, sauerkraut and dumplings, and a pierogi, plus sour cream and onions. You also get to add two sides, in this case mashed potatoes and green beans.
