There are Belgian waffles and then there are Liège Belgian waffles. Shaky Alibi is all about Liège Belgian waffles. The only things similar between the two are that they are both from Belgium, they are both made in a waffle iron, and you can top them with other tastes.

Liège waffles are made with a yeast dough rather than a batter. They are sprinkled with pearl sugar which caramelizes and makes the outside of the waffle good-tasting and crispy. The Liège waffles look small when you first see them but they're a very dense waffle. They'll fill you just fine. To accompany your waffle, get a large, freshly ground, made-to-order, best-in-the-city cup of coffee.

Shaky Alibi offers both sweet and savory Liège waffles. I opted for the sweet with bananas, milk chocolate, and house-made whipped cream that may have had a touch of "something" in it. I also got to taste a ham and cheese waffle, which is served with a Louisiana hot sauce for added goodness.

Shaky Alibi is a small cafe filled with happy patrons eating and sipping while tapping on their laptops. It's a very short distance from the famous El Coyote restaurant. If you're looking for something different when in Los Angeles, Shaky Alibi would be good for breakfast, lunch, and, for me, even dinner.
