Good news to anyone living in the Texas Panhandle or anyone passing through Amarillo, TX. In Texas, brisket is king, and so it is at Tyler's Barbecue.
It takes a real pitmaster to smoke a brisket that is tender and juicy and pitmaster and owner, Tyler Frazer, is more than capable. Tyler's has a drive through for to go orders plus counter service and a small dining area on the inside. It all starts when you pull into the parking lot and smell the smoke of the meats coming from the smoker in back of this barbecue joint.
Lunch was busier this time, probably because of all the good press Tyler's has been receiving of late. A long line at opening moved quickly as most diners were getting their barbecue to go. Tyler was behind the counter chopping up a brisket point. I usually go for the lean-in brisket, but the fat is so perfectly rendered, the brisket is the go to meat on my 8 oz Texas double chopped sandwich on Texas toast. A side of coleslaw, peach cobbler and what else, Dr Pepper beverage. The 8 oz double chopped is big enough for two, but I finished it myself. I didn't want to share, it was that good. The brisket had a smokey and flavorful bark and the meat was perfectly smoked and juicy. There is BBQ sauce on the table but none was needed, this beef stands on its own. All his food is made from scratch daily and if you stop by late in the evening, some foods my be sold out for the day, a sign of true Texas BBQ.
