Phillips Grocery in Oxford is a branch of the original in Holly Springs. The one in Holly Springs is a can't miss stop. This one, while not really a grocery, or even a former grocery, is a genuinely old wooden house south of town, converted into something reminiscent of the Holly Springs original, in an impressionistic sort of way. There are some picnic tables out on the front porch, and they can be a very pleasant place to spend some time munching on first-class hamburgers.

Turn right after entering to place your order. Then find yourself a seat. When your order's ready, someone will bring it out to you. The burgers are loosely-formed classics. We recommend the large burger, with a better burger-to-bun ratio. All sorts of fried things are available to accompany your burger, such as okra and French fries, and some unorthodox, and very good, fried dill pickle spears (not the more common pickle chips), and of course there are enormous cups of sweet tea.

If you're in the area, and have time for only one visit to Phillips, you'd be crazy to pass up the one in Holly Springs, seeing as how it's just a short piece up the road north of Oxford. But if you'll be in town for a few days, grab a burger here, sit on the porch, and sip your sweet tea. You won't be sorry.

Loved it! Tried four or five kinds of burgers, sweet potato fries (terrific), spicy fries, onion rings, fried pickles (even our pickle haters liked them), and fried pies (good, but I've had better), and enjoyed them all.

Service was fast and extra-friendly; they couldn't do enough for us, and we were with the opposing team on game day in Oxford! The price was great considering the feast we had.

We tried a couple of better-known spots in nearby Memphis, but this was by far our favorite of the three. Again, can't tell you how very friendly and outstanding the service was. It even surpassed the excellent food! We'll be back.
