Lane Packing Company is a roadside market and much more. It is located in Peach County, where more peaches are grown than any other county in Georgia. It is open year round, although your experience at Lane’s will vary with the season. To enjoy Lane’s fully, a visit during the peach growing season is a must. From mid-May to mid-August, around 30 different varieties of peaches ripen at different times in the surrounding orchards.

In the spring, you can pick your own strawberries if you want, or just buy them already picked. Other locally grown produce such as tomatoes, butterbeans, and corn is seasonally available. In the fall, the pecan harvest begins in the nearby groves.

The drive to Lane’s from Interstate I-75 takes less than ten minutes and is well worth it for a dessert break. There is a dessert counter that features sweets made with the three main products grown at Lane’s: peaches, pecans, and strawberries. The peach cobbler has lots of Georgia peaches with a light pastry and is not too sweet. Peach muffin tops look like cookies, but with the texture and taste of a muffin. They have a good peach flavor. The pecan cookies make a nice treat, as do the peanut butter cookies.

The pecan pie is rich and gooey and is loaded with pecans. It can be by bought by the slice or whole pie. Homemade peach ice cream is very creamy with small pieces of peaches for flavor.

Lane’s also serves lunch with standard sandwich fare, soups, and a salad bar. However, lunch is not the real Roadfood appeal of Lane’s.

In summary, a trip to Lane Packing Company is a great Deep South food excursion.
