Sport Bar - Livingston, MT

Opened in 1909 in a Livingston Beer Hall, the Sport has always been a welcoming destination for locals and for passers-by. Impressive hamburgers – half-pound hunks of ground chuck available with cheese, bacon, and/or grilled mushrooms and served with seasoned fries or beans. Half the fun of coming to the Sport is just being here.

"The Sport is open with a new owner! I travel through Livingston, MT several times a year. The taste of the Old West is back. Chuck Tanner, who owns The Rack (in the Best Western Hotel Conference Center) in Livingston, opened the "new" Sport in August 2007. If ..."   [Read More].

"This joint used to be one of my favorite Montana hangouts. Back when Suzanne and Eric Hirsckorn ran it, Sport Bar was fun and the food was pretty good. They sold to Jim and Cynthia Kohler and the menu improved with some excellent Tex-Mex hot food, although I kinda ..."   [Read More].

"I drove up to the Sport Restaurant, after camping in Yellowstone, based in large part on--heck, exclusively because of--its inclusion in the Roadfood book. Unbeknownst to me, I discovered that the Sport had changed hands as well as, in part, the menu. I started ..."   [Read More].

Made from local Montana beef, and grilled to perfection, this burger bursts with beefy flavor and, with no doubt in my mind, is the best burger I've ever enjoyed.

Sport shakes are made using Montana's favorite Wilcoxson's brand ice cream. They are medium-thick, blended smooth, and satisfying.

Navajo taco means an open-face version of the Tex-Mex dish. The Sport's is two flour tortillas topped with your choice of spiced beef, chicken, or pork along with beans (black or pinto), lettuce, onions, salsa, and sour cream.

Marinated, grilled strips of sirloin are topped with plenty of jalapeno peppers, onions, green peppers, and jack cheese. This dish is listed on the menu with a chili pepper symbol, indicating it is very spicy. It is pretty hot, but not tongue-searing.

Decor at The Sport is known as eclectic, which in this part of the country almost always includes some animal heads.

The skin of a Texas diamondback adorns the wall near the door above a bunch of old-time bric-a-brac.

Livingston is a gathering spot for Montanans and visiting sportsmen, especially fishermen. The Sport is a great place to absorb local color.
