Swiftwater Cafe

8 Triangle Way, Whittier, AK - (907) 472-2550
Posted By Bob Zemanek on August 25, 2005 9:12 PM
The Swiftwater Cafe overlooks Whittier Harbor and scenic Prince William Sound. It's the perfect place for hungry anglers to kick back, get some great food, and watch the fleet coming and going.

The clam chowder is rich and creamy and loaded with clams and locally grown potatoes from the Matanuska Valley. The fish and shrimp are fresh out of the Sound and are lightly breaded with panko and fried. Other seafood items include peel & eat shrimp, crab cakes, calamari and seafood chowder. The proprietors are also the chefs who make delicious smoked prime rib on the weekend, along with BBQ baby back ribs.

The walls on the inside are covered with pictures of shipwrecks and Alaska memorabilia from years gone by, along with harpoons and whale baleen. Fishing nets and buoys hang overhead. Seating inside is at counters with stools (for sharing the One That Got Away Story with fellow anglers). On the outside deck there is a beautiful view of the harbor and mountains.
